In a heartbreaking turn of events, the mother of Shani Louk, an Israeli-German woman who went missing after a Hamas attack on a music festival in Israel, has confirmed her daughter’s tragic demise. Ricarda Louk disclosed that she had received devastating news from the Israeli military, who informed her that a DNA sample extracted from a fragment of skull bone belonged to Shani Louk. However, Shani’s body has not yet been recovered.
Shani’s sister, Adi Louk, also took to social media to share the devastating news, confirming that her sister, aged 22, had fallen victim to the “massacre at Re’im.” This refers to the horrifying attack staged by Hamas in southern Israel, near the Gaza Strip, which took place on October 7.
Shani Louk had been attending a music festival near the Kibbutz Re’im when the dreadful incident occurred. Gunmen opened fire at the event, sending terrified partygoers fleeing into the desert. The attack resulted in the loss of more than 260 lives, with several individuals taken hostage.
Shortly after the assault, a video began circulating widely on social media. This video depicted the body of a young woman being paraded through the streets in the back of a flatbed truck, surrounded by armed fighters and others shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Greatest). The woman in the video was lying face down, but Ms. Louk’s family claims to have identified her through her distinctive dreadlocks and tattoos.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the fragment of Shani Louk’s skull remain unclear from the available reports. While there had been speculation in both online and media circles about her fate, Ricarda Louk, Shani’s mother, initially believed that her daughter was still alive. She made a public appeal for information, stating, “We were sent a video in which I could clearly see our daughter unconscious in the car with the Palestinians, and them driving around the Gaza Strip.”
