In a deeply disturbing incident, a nurse from Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, was brutally raped and murdered while returning home from her hospital shift. This tragedy comes shortly after a similar heinous crime against a doctor in Kolkata, underscoring a troubling pattern of violence against healthcare professionals.
The victim, a dedicated nurse working at a local hospital in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district, was attacked while on her way home. The assailant, identified as Dharmendra, a daily wage laborer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, followed the nurse, assaulted her, and raped her. In a chilling act of brutality, he then strangled her with a scarf and left her lifeless body hidden in the bushes.
The victim’s sister reported her missing after she failed to return home from her shift. A search operation was promptly launched by the police, who utilized technical evidence and CCTV footage to track the suspect’s movements.
Dharmendra was apprehended in Rajasthan after fleeing the scene. The arrest followed a meticulous investigation involving the collection of CCTV evidence and a trace of his escape route. During interrogation, Dharmendra confessed to the rape and murder of the nurse, providing authorities with a detailed account of the crime.
This horrifying incident has ignited widespread outrage and grief across India. The brutality of the crime has intensified calls for enhanced safety measures and stricter law enforcement to protect both healthcare workers and women in general.
