Foreigners employed by the care agency Renaissance Personnel in Brighton now face an urgent dilemma. The agency’s license was withdrawn due to concerns about the authenticity of job vacancies and payment practices .
Muhammad, a 45-year-old migrant from Pakistan, arrived in the UK with his wife and four children in April 2023. They had dreams of a better life, education for their children, and stability. However, soon after their arrival, Muhammad discovered that there was no work available for him. His certificate of sponsorship, approved by the Home Office, promised urgent need for care workers at Renaissance Personnel. Yet, he found himself without contracted work, struggling to make ends meet .
Renaissance Personnel, operating not only in Brighton but also in London and Buckinghamshire, claims no connection to foreign recruitment agents. However, Muhammad’s experience contradicts this assertion. He paid a hefty sum to a recruitment agent, only to face joblessness upon arrival. The agency’s Brighton arm, registered with the Care Quality Commission in 2021, has never been inspected. Allegedly, over 150 foreign workers were recruited for the site, while work was available for only around 15 staff members .
This situation highlights broader issues within the UK’s immigration system. As the government grapples with illegal migration, care providers face challenges in sponsoring migrant workers. Additionally, proposals to prevent economic migrant workers from bringing their dependents exacerbate the strain on an already struggling care sector .
