Botswana has once again made headlines in the diamond industry with the discovery of the world’s second-largest diamond. The extraordinary 2,492-carat gemstone, unearthed at the Karowe Diamond Mine, has been proudly showcased by President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The diamond, discovered by Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp, represents the largest find in Botswana’s history and the second-largest globally. Utilizing advanced X-ray technology, Lucara’s exploration team identified this remarkable gem, adding it to a list of significant finds from the Karowe mine. Notable previous discoveries include the 1,758-carat Sewelô diamond in 2019 and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona diamond in 2015.
